Activator Adjusting is Available at Acupractic Natural Healing Center
Chiropractor Chapel Hill, NC
For many reasons, patients choose to receive chiropractic adjustments performed by doctors who use the Activator Technique. For many, the gentle, specific technique feels good and makes them feel better than other types of adjustments, including hands-on and/or drop-table techniques. Doctors such as Dr. Lisa Oskardmay, who use the Activator to adjust patients, enjoy referrals from other patients and healthcare practitioners because they know Activator adjusting works.
How Does Activator Adjusting Work?
Also called a mechanical force manual assisted instrument, the Activator instrument is a small handheld device that your chiropractor uses to apply a controlled and reproducible tap to the spine or other body part. The force applied is enough to mobilize vertebral segments or other joints but not enough to cause injury. Chiropractors such as Dr. Lisa Oskardmay, who have received training in this supportive technique, understand how this small, handheld device can dramatically change patients’ posture, pain level, and neurological system.
Over time, the Activator instrument evolved from a single-tap spring-loaded tool to a higher-functioning tool that provides the exact amount of force necessary to adjust a particular joint. Placed on the skin surface adjacent to a vertebral subluxation or misalignment region, the instrument’s tip passes through several tissue levels to impact spinal alignment while releasing muscle and ligament tension. Dr. Oskardmay uses the Impulse Activator and the Activator IQ to help each person achieve their best spinal alignment, free of subluxations, with the least force.
Dr. Oskardmay performs a complete health examination on new patients and periodic re-examinations as treatment progresses. Patients and Doctors understand where painful subluxations impact spinal health through in-depth conversation, palpation, and other examination techniques. Although subluxations are generally not visible on X-rays, sometimes we need X-rays or other imaging techniques to fully understand spinal health, especially if there has been an accident, trauma, or other considerations. Patients should always bring any X-rays, MRIs, and other health evaluations to our office before care so that Dr. Oskardmay can evaluate such films to get the best care. If x-rays are unlikely, she can also order such examinations at local facilities.
Following examination, Dr. Oskardmay applies therapeutic massage to the back and extremities to relax the mind and body. Using the Activator tool, she next adjusts spinal subluxations throughout the spine and other body areas impacting the spine. She may utilize specific physical modalities to body areas, ranging from elector stimulation, hot and cold therapy, cupping massage, acupuncture, or dry needling technique. She likely provides exercises and nutrition suggestions to help patients get better quickly and make the most of their experience.
