Acupuncturist Chapel Hill, NC

Acupuncture treatment for military veterans helps this group heal from a variety of physical and mental conditions. The VA and community care providers, such as Dr. Lisa Oskardmay, DC, LAc, in Chapel Hill, NC, provide acupuncture to veterans to help with chronic pain, PTSD, insomnia, headaches, back and neck pain, and other musculoskeletal and other complaints. To access these free integrative services, veterans ask their VA medical doctor for a referral. At Acupractic Natural Healing Center, we help veterans obtain referrals and use their VA benefits to access acupuncture care at our office.

Acupuncture treats a variety of conditions, both physical and mental. From Insomnia and anxiety to chronic pain and headaches to depression and anger, acupuncture treatment helps veterans suffering from orthopedic issues, PTSD, and other conditions. Patients enjoy the hands-on approach to care at our office, including massage, cupping, exercise, nutrition discussions, and, when referred, chiropractic adjustments.

Acupuncture Treatment

There are several different types of acupuncture treatments available for patients in need of care. BFA (Battlefield Acupuncture) for pain is a rapid-acting acupuncture treatment using five ear points. Sometimes patients receive take-home points such as ear magnets, ear seeds, or even ASP permanent ear needles to augment this therapy. TCM, or traditional Chinese medicine, is another type of acupuncture treatment that takes a more holistic approach to care and considers the unique balance of the five elements and the connected meridians or channels in each person. The goal of TCM acupuncture is the integration and balance of the channel networks to resolve pain and distress. A third popular type of acupuncture treatment used in our office and in other acupuncture and PT clinics is trigger-point acupuncture (AKA DNT or dry needling). LACs or licensed acupuncturists, such as Dr. Lisa Oskardmay and others, keep in mind the balance of qi (energy flow) in the five elements when performing trigger-point therapy to release trigger points in areas of muscle tension, such as the shoulders, hips, and back muscles. DNT typically uses larger needles than those used in TCM, BFA, or auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture). Your practitioner will always discuss treatment protocol and options with you.

Studies show that acupuncture helps patients reduce pain, and up to 82% of patients were able to reduce their usage of pharmaceutical medicines, including opiates.
